Results & News - Late April 2003 |
2003 (Spring) Ozarks Results:
Mother Nature gave us a couple of beautiful days for our Ozarks Tournament
and the spring Bar-B-Que. The weather was nice, the food was great and the
fish were biting.
The BBQ was put on by the officers with a bunch of help from Bob Treadway,
Terry and Frank Stanek and Scott Mertz. Gary & Donnie bought and brought
enough food for everyone….for TWO MEALS, and still had leftovers. They were
up till midnight Friday night boiling Brats (BBQers tip: Boil the fat out of
Brats prior to tossing them on the BBQ, and they don’t flair up on the
grill). Along with the Brats, we had hamburgers, regular and German potato
salad, and plenty of chips. Congrats to all who helped with the feast. It
was very good.
It sounded like the bite was “ON”, on Friday. There were a some 3 & 4 lbers,
caught, and one over 5lbs. But unfortunately those “Friday Fish” don’t count
(right, Scott?).
Saturday’ tournament didn’t produce any 5lbers, but came pretty close with a
4.79 lb fish. Sunday backed off slightly with another nice 4½ lb fish being
brought to the scales. All in all it sounded like most people caught plenty
of shorts, with about ½ of the boats bringing keepers to the “weigh in”.
It was definitely a “larger” fish tournament, as many fish in the 3 to 4
pound range were brought in. Fish were obviously ready to spawn. Some even
deposited some eggs in our measuring tub. Soft plastics (brush hogs,
lizards, etc) on c-rigs and Texas Rigs seemed to the popular pattern. With
some coming on spinnerbaits, jerk baits and cranks.

From The President's Boat…
With our phenomenal growth, it is getting more and more difficult to keep
track of, and welcome, “NEW” members to our club. Please let me take a
moment to welcome any new members to the Hawg Hawler Family. Please feel
free to introduce yourselves to the current officers and let us know how you
feel about your Hawg Hawler experience. We hope you enjoy your stay, and
come back to fish more tournaments with us in the future.

Tournament Signup REIMinder
While it is nice to use the return form on the schedule to signup for a
tournament, the form is NOT necessary. What we need for a team to sign up is
2 names and the entry fee. A check with 2 names in the “memo” area (and the
lake) is quite sufficient. |
Club Jacket Order
We received orders for 10 embroidered club jackets. They have been ordered
and will arrive shortly. After they are embroidered, they will be available
for pickup at a club “T” or delivery (at additional charge). We will try to
have them ready by Pomme, but NO PROMISES.
Newsletter Note
The previous FOUR newsletters have stressed the rising costs of postal
mailing this newsletter to a club of our size. Everyone with email was
encouraged to request the HH News by email, or access it on the web. A big
club THANK YOU to those who responded.
The newsletter typically costs about $.90 per copy to Xerox, fold, staple,
address, and mail (including postage). Multiply that times the quantity of
newsletters mailed per month, and again times the number of newsletters per
year, and it is estimated that there is a potential annual savings of
$800.00.
When realized, this savings will go back to the members with bigger and
better prizes for our year-end Awards Banquet.
As of this newsletter, the HH News is only being snail mailed to those (6
members) who have requested it If any member is in contact with another
member who did not receive this newsletter, and would like to receive it by
email or postal mail, please asked them contact me, at
secretary@hawghawlers.com
