Results & News - July 2003
Pomme De Terre – July 19/20, 2003 |
|
Low humidity, cool temps, lightly overcast,
and a nice breeze made for some enjoyable fishing on Saturday morning.
Unfortunately that all changed about 10am, when the clouds parted and the
sun shown bright and humidity rolled in. It didn’t take long to turn to
“sweltering”. By the time weigh-in rolled around, everyone was thinking
about the ice-cream at the marina.
Weigh-in wasn’t much to brag about on Saturday with only 36 fish weighed in.
Pam Wakim & Frank Stanek brought in 5 fish to take the first day lead by a
nice 2 lb margin. Ken McNeil and (new member) Cheryl Koza, weighed in 2 fish
for a solid 2nd place. Cheryl’s 3.46lb fish was the Big Bass for the day,
and, as it turned out, for the whole weekend. Ed Knoll’s 3.16 lber was a
respectable “honorable mention” for Big Bass.
Sunday’s weather started off hot and muggy, and frankly, I’d rather not talk
about it. It turned out that there were not too many fish that wanted a
“free ride” to the weigh-in either. Our 33 boats only brought in 27 fish on
Sunday, and Dave Sona had 4 fish of those. Dave and his partner (new member)
Shannon Vaughn had enough to land them in first place.
Bob Ray and Rob Cook finished in second place with a total of 5 keepers for
the weekend. Cheryl added another nice 2+lber to her and Ken’s total, to
solidify a third place finish. Pam & dad couldn’t add anything to their
Saturday weight, but held in there for a fourth place finish.
Mark Boyette, who was fishing in only his third Hawg Hawler tournament,
weighed in his second Sunday/Pomme Big Bass. In May he had a 3+lber for a
Sunday BB win. This time he had a 2.40lber that took the honors.

Ok, now that the business is out of the way….
It’s time for the gossip. Rumor has it that there was this guy who was
disgusted with not catching fish Sunday morning, so he threw his rod down in
his boat (white Triton - fish & ski). Apparently he didn’t notice that the
crankbait he was using hooked into the side of his shoe. Then he proceeded
to sit back in the seat, and cross his feet. When he did, the crankbait
became hooked in both shoes, locking his shoes, and feet, together. It was
reported that, upon seeing this, his (first time, and maybe “never again”)
partner nearly fell out of the boat because he was laughing so hard. |
1st Place

3rd Place

Our 33 boats had 63 fish for a total weight of 92.81 lbs. Full details can
be found here.
Club Jackets
For those who ordered a club Jacket, they are in, and they look great. If
you haven’t picked yours up yet, they will be available at Wappapello. If
you would like me to sh ip
yours to you ($5.00), please contact me so we can
make arrangements.
To all of those envious members who want one….. please be patient. We’ll
place another order soon.
Next Tournament Note
Our next tournament is at the Peoples Creek
ramp at Wappapello Lake. Anyone attending this tournament should be aware
that this is a "campground ramp", and as such, does not have much space
for tying up boats (rocky shoreline). Please make sure to allow
sufficient time to turn in your boat number, and possibly allow time to
load boats out prior to weigh-in.
