Newsletter
04-06 (2004-April)

It’s all hearsay….
Well, since I didn’t attend, everything in this newsletter is hearsay,
so don’t blame me for any inaccuracies. I guess the most memorable (or
notable) happening at the Bull Shoals Tournament, happened on the way
to the lake. After 15+ years of virtually no accidents, 2004 hasn’t
started off too good. Last month it was Ken McNeil’s boat that flipped
over on the highway on the return trip. This time it was Charlie
Beach’s boat that went sliding down the highway without the truck or
the trailer, prior to the tournament.
Another accident:
Charlie “met” another vehicle on a curve and they connected headlight
to headlight. This activated both airbags, bent the ¾” steel plate
where the hitch ball is connected, and caused ALL THREE boat straps to
break, separating the truck, trailer and boat. The truck went 440
feet, before coming to a stop, the boat slid 330 feet, and the trailer
was somewhere in between. The other car that was involved went off the
other side of the road. As far as injuries, thankfully, there were
only minor cuts and bruises. But vehicle-wise there was extensive
damage. No report from the insurance yet, but there is a good chance
that all will be totaled.
Thanks, thanks, and more thanks:
A BIG Hawg Hawler Thanks goes out to those who went out of their way
to help Charlie and Chuck in their hour of need. Teddy Reim, Ken Luzynski, Dave
McGarity, Rob Cook and Scott Hasty were right there to assist a Fellow
“Hawler” when help was needed. Thanks fella’s, you make this a great
club.
Another BIG Hawg Hawler Thanks goes out to Terry Stanek, Bob Treadway
and Pam Wakim, for helping with weigh-in. It’s nice to know that when
there is a need, there are gracious Hawg Hawlers there to help out.
Thanks, guys.
In a strange twist of fate, it turned out that Teddy Reim was the only
club officer who attended the tournament. Teddy stepped up to the
plate and handled the job very well. Teddy (and Uncle) even filled in
for Charlie and Chuck as Tournament Directors on Saturday. The other
officers, and the rest of the club owes you a Big Thanks also, Teddy
(and Uncle too).
Do you think that’s it????? Nope, not yet. There’s one more. Terry
Stanek noticed that he had a wheel bearing heating up and it turns out
they were just about “ready to go”. He asked around and was directed
to a local shop who understands about people in need. It seems that
this shop will “do what it takes” to get you back on the road, or the
water, and do it quickly, at a reasonable price. The shop is
Shockey’s Boat &
Motor Repair (417-273-4049). They are located at HCR 1,
Box 1179 Isabella, MO 65676 (2 miles down HH off Highway 160). It
seems that in addition to Boat Repair, they also have a Bait & Tackle
Shop, and Boat Storage. The fine people at Shockey’s sure did a grand
job on his wheel bearings, and at a very reasonable price, too. A Big
Hawg Hawler Thanks to Shockey’s Boat & Motor Repair. We are proud to
call them a Hawg Hawler Favored Facility, and add them to our
“Sponsor” page on www.HawgHawlers.com. Anyone needing any kind of
service at Bull Shoals, should contact Rodney Shockey at
Shockey@webound.com or visit
their website at http://www.bullshoals.com/shockeys/
Bull Shoals Tournament:
Boat-wise the tournament left something to be desired. There were only
18 boats who competed in the tournament. That is the smallest turnout
the Hawg Hawlers has had in years. There were 21 boats pre-registered,
but Charlie had his accident, one team called in sick, and another
didn’t show. Fishing-wise it seems that the fish were biting, at least
for some. Reports from the lake said that there were quite a number of
short fish being caught. This leads us to believe that in another 2-3
years Bull Shoals is going to have some respectable numbers of “legal”
fish.
Tom Creamer and Ken Robbin took top weight honors with 11 fish that
weighed in at 17.77lbs. Paul Boehme was MR. BIG BASS, winning Big Bass
BOTH DAYS.
