Pomme “T”
Look at the results sheet and you will see that the fishing at Pomme
was not very good this July. What you will NOT see on the results
sheet is how hot and sticky it was. Everyone was thankful that this
was a morning/morning (6am-noon) tournament. Others were asking why we
didn’t fish from 5:30am to 11:30am. Well, that’s a good question, and
may appear on the survey this year. I don’t know if an additional ˝
hour would have made the catch ration much different, or provided much
relief from the sun, but it’s a good thought.
Ok, back to the results. It was rather difficult to find fish, but
some always do. Many who found fish on Saturday could not locate any
on Sunday. Very few teams found fish both days (good for the tally
board entries – less addition).
Teddy Reim and Chris Bergmann were one of the teams who managed to
find fish both days and it paid off for them with a win. Even with
their .25lb (dead fish) penalty, they weighed in an impressive 9.69lbs
(7 fish). There were no big ones, but they had enough weight to take
home the “big” check (that Teddy wrote). Second place was won by, new
members, Joe Gedville and Jeff Frailey with 8.50lbs (4 fish). Jeff’s
4.31lb kicker on Sunday, took BB of the w/e honors and the 50/50 side
pot of $145.00. Terry Stanek and Bob Treadway took 3rd place with 3
fish that weighed 5.97lb. Dave McGarity took BB on Saturday with his
3.52lb fish. Full results, statistics, and patterns, are listed below.
Pomme State Park Marina – a HAWG HAWLER FAVORITE
Once again
Pomme
State Park Marina hosted our “T” with open arms. Les, Judy, Jason
and everyone at the Marina were very courteous and accommodating, as
usual. A special thanks to Jason for his help with our scale issues on
Sunday. Their attitude and professionalism is why they are a HAWG
HAWLER FAVORITE.
Hawg Hawler Thanks
One of our club members noticed some kids who had entered another club
members boat (at the dock). It seems that they were looking at some
hooks that were laying on the deck of the empty boat. The first club
member (politely?) asked what they were doing in a boat while the
owner of the boat was away. The kids didn’t think anyone was paying
attention to them, and when they found out otherwise, they ran off.
This is the spirit of the Hawg Hawlers, members watching out for other
members. A big Hawg Hawler Thanks to Bob Ray for speaking up (not
something Bob is shy about).
Scale Malfunction
The start of Sunday's weigh-in was delayed because the club scale was
acting erratically. It became apparent that it would not produce
accurate weights, and should not be used. Because of this, the
officers decided to used Neil Schultz's hand held digital scale (50lb
max), which had a brand new battery (thank you Neil – another Hawg
Hawlers comes through in a pinch). Sunday weights were taken and
recorded. It seemed as though the scale was weighing a bit heavy. Even
though there were no protests submitted, after we returned home, Teddy
and Greg checked out Neil's scale, and determined that there was not
enough discrepancy, and not enough information, to accurately make any
adjustments to the tallies. So all of the results of the Pomme weigh-in's
will stand as recorded.
Because of the issues with the club scale, and the fact that it has
served us well for over 16 years, the officers have decided that we
will purchase a new scale. Depending if the old scale can be repaired,
we may keep it as a back-up, sell it, or trash it. The officers have
also devised a "back-up plan" if we ever have a scale malfunction in
the future.
Please keep in mind that the club officers are committed to do
everything possible to provide accurate measuring, weighing, and
recording of each fish presented at weigh-in. In addition, the
officers of the Hawg Hawlers Bass Club are always open to suggestions
from any club member regarding an improvement in any aspect of running
the club, tournament, or weigh-in.
New Members
We had a number of new members at the Pomme tournament. The officers
and members of the Hawg Hawlers Bass Club would like to welcome all
new members to our club. We hope that you find that the Hawg Hawlers
provides what you are looking for in a bass club. If you have any
suggestions for improvement please don’t hesitate to contact one of
our officers (see the “contact us” webpage).
Happy Birthday – Frank
Another event that was notable at the Pomme
tournament was Frank Stanek’s birthday. Frank is 80 years young, and
has been a Hawg Hawler for many years. Franks birthday party Saturday
evening brought out the “worst” in gag gifts which, for obvious
reasons, will not be mentioned in this newsletter. Congratulations to
Frank on his 80 years, and his young-at-heart attitude. We’ll get
together again in 10 years for his 90th.
Indian Hills Resort – a “HAWG HAWLER FAVORITE
Some of our club members have stayed at
Indian
Hills Resort previously. With comfortable beds, large rooms,
plenty of parking, a clean pool, and nice people in the office, how
can you go wrong? Because of this, Indian Hills Resort has been
elevated to the status of a HAWG HAWLER FAVORITE. Harold and Karolyn
run a top-notch resort and were very accommodating with Frank’s
birthday party (thanks for the Barbie doll wrapping paper – it was a
big hit). Thank you Indian Hills…. We will be back.
Club Decals
Many thanks to
Encore
Productions for stepping up to t he plate and providing us with
club decals for all members at no charge. Encore provides professional Video and Photography services, as well as large format
printing. Keep them in mind if you or any one you know is in
need of these services for a Wedding, Special Event, Senior / Family
Portraits or for Corporate or Commercial needs. Encore can be
contacted at 1-800-278-4703 or by clicking
here.
Ask an officer at upcoming T's for your decal (one per member please).
Chili Supper
Reminder
The Chili Supper will be at Lake of the Ozarks in OCTOBER this year.
Truman (Long Shoal), and Wappapello (Barretts), just don't have the
facilities, and ease of getting together, that RunAway II offers. So
remember to feed yourselves at Truman in August, and Wappapello in
September, and bring your Chili appetite to Lake of the Ozarks in
OCTOBER..
