Big Winners
A payday at the ramp helps offset the pain at the pump. Higher fuel prices
drove down the number of teams at Wappapello this year. Of the 15 teams that
were able to get a bank loan to cover the gas, Bryan Walker and Jim Fanter
were glad they made it down and so were we since they were the Saturday
tournament directors. A perfect tournament with a 20 fish total and a first
place check made it all worth while. In 4th place on Saturday
these guys went out on Sunday and came from behind to finish in front with
17.77 lbs. For the win, they took home $160. Great Job Guys, way to limit
out.
Second place was Greg and Andy Shands. These guys missed a perfect limit by
only 2 fish. Not bad. Greg also had a nice 3.48 lb bass on Sunday that
helped bump up their weight. They also pitched in on keeping things moving
by acting as tourney directors on Sunday. Looks like it helped both first
and second place teams. With 8 fish on Saturday they added a perfect 10 more
on Sunday to land in second place with 15.63 lbs. They didn’t have a lot of
gas to buy since they live to close and that means the $118 they took home
was all profit. As always, nice work.
Third place goes to Russ Grobe and Troy Moore. Russ, as last years
Wappapello champ, was in the drivers’ seat so to speak. Let me tell you it’s
tough to have 2 fish in the boat and run into Russ on the lake when he tells
you he has his 5 and then you see him cull through another. They only missed
a perfect double limit by one fish with 19 total. 9 fish on Saturday and a
perfect 10 on Sunday put these guys in the money again this year. A weight
of 15.09 lbs was good for $84. It may not be a win but no one can say Russ
and partners aren’t consistent. Way to go.
Our final paid place isn’t usually where you find all the money but that was
before this tourney. Pam Wakim and Bob Treadway knocked it out of the park
this time. In solid second place after the first day with Pam’s last minute
Saturday Big Bass. They went back out and started the day off with Bob
catching what would later be the Sunday and Weekend Big Bass to anchor their
14 fish. An overall weight of 14.78 was what it took to take the $50 for
fourth place. But the club had more checks to write for the Wakim/Treadway
Team. Pam’s Saturday Big bass 3.05 lbs paid $56 and Bobs Sunday Big Bass of
4.31 lbs was good for another $56. They also took the Side pot for another
$65. A total there of $227. Whew, not bad for a 15 boat tourney.
Our next and Final tournament is at
Lake of the Ozarks
(Runaway II) October 8-9 REMEMBER!!! We are taking off at 10:30 am on
Saturday for a total of 8 hrs off fine Ozarks fishing that day.
Who’s New?
Welcome new and past returning members. Chris Brennan and Michael Harigan.
Fun Stuff
So much fun stuff
this time. Where to start? With 15 boats, it was like old times. There was a
tip from a member to always take the transom saver off the boat when
launching. Forgetting to do this caused him a little motor trouble …but not
enough to keep the unnamed member from taking a 2nd place check.
Maybe that $118 isn’t all profit after all. Greg Heinz was able to do a
little survey work for the Fish and Game dept by catching 6 species of fish
this weekend. See if you can guess them all. Post your guess on the message
board and we’ll see who gets it right. Durbin you are not allowed to guess.
Giveaways
This month we gave away a free two night’s stay for two at Runaway II which
went to Greg Heinz. We also had a free night at Millers motor lodge that
went to Rick and Linda Armstrong. A very special thanks to Millers for their
contribution and understanding of low turnout in light of fuel prices.
