March it was rising water
and “chocolate milk”. Early April it was high winds and thunderstorms.
Tablerock was 10 feet low. The hits just keep on comin’. But, Hawg Hawlers
were not going to be denied. 21 boats signed up for the Tablerock
Tournament. Of that 21 boats, 19 weighed in fish. Half as many boats as OZ
Spring, but there were MORE FISH WEIGHED IN. The drive was well worth it.
The Bar B Q was a huge
success. A good time was had by all. Special thanks to all who helped make
this annual event a must attend.
Winning Anglers
1st Place -- Greg Hoch and Scott Noyes
Greg and Scott both weighed in one fish on Saturday. Their team weight
for Saturday was 3.85 lbs. This weight put them in the middle of the pack.
Sunday was a different story. Greg hawled in 3 fish including one Hawg at
2.71 lbs and Scott added another keeper to take the win with a total tourney
weight of 12.99 lbs. They took home $194.00 for the first place win. Greg
and Scott reported they caught the 6 fish on white spinnerbaits.
2nd Place -- Tom
O’Connor and Rick Armstrong
Tom and Rick had kind of a slow start on Saturday. They weighed in 1
fish for a total weight of 1.77. Tom came charging back on Sunday and
weighed in a 5 fish limit for a total weight Sunday of 11.11 lbs. Their
weekend weight was 12.88 lbs. Tom and Rick took home $156.00 for their
effort. They reported using green french fries.
3rd Place -- Greg and
Andy Shands
After Saturdays performance, I thought Greg and Andy Shands were going
run away with the Tablerock tourney this year. Greg weighed in 3 fish
including one that weighed in at 3.53 lbs. Andy added another keeper to
bring their total Saturday weight to 10.7 lbs. Bass eluded them on Sunday
and Greg weighed in one fish to bring their weekend weight to 12.45 lbs.
They took home checks for $124.00 for their effort. Greg and Andy reported
they used X Raps.
41 anglers caught a total
of 60 fish. Please see below for a complete list of the finishers.

Big
Bass - Saturday
The saga of Saturday’s Big Bass could only be titled as
“Close but no Cigar”. Greg Heinz proudly stepped forward with his Hawg and
presented it for weighin. The Hawg weighed in at 3.52 lbs. A very
respectable weight. But wait, along comes Greg Shands. He also had a very
respectable potential Big Bass. When the scale locked in, the display read
3.53 lbs eking out Greg Heinz fish by .01 lbs. Then along comes Dean
Sullivan and Charlie Beach. Dean and Charlie both had a fish. Dean’s was
the biggest. It tipped the scales at 4.03 lbs. Dean smiled from ear to
ear. Last but not least, Steve Carnal stepped to the scales. Steve had 3
fish. One looked pretty big. The team weight for the 3 was 8.00 lbs. They
pulled out the two small ones and weighed the big one. When the scale
locked in, the display read 4.05 lbs. Steve’s fish beat Dean’s fish by .02
lbs. Steve took home $78.00 for Saturday Big Bass and his fish also
entitled him to the Big Bass Side Pot worth $105.00.
Big Bass - Sunday
No
where near as much drama on Sunday. Pam Wakim brought in the Big Bass. It
weighed 3.37 lbs. Its closest competitor was a 2.82 lb bass weighed in by
Greg Heinz. Pam took home checks for $78.00.
Angler of the Year
Terry Stanek is still in sole possession of the top spot as Angler of the
Year by 12 points. Terry weighed in one fish at Tablerock. Second place is
still held by JD Ketcherside. JD did not attend the Tablerock tourney. Bob
Treadway weighed in 2 fish at the Rock which moved him from his 7th
place spot after the OZ tourney to take sole possession of 3rd
place.

De Terre History
Pomme -- Spring. I’m not sure it could get any better. 2005 was a very
good year for HawgHawlers at Pomme De Terre. We had 25 boats sign up for
the tournament 24 Boats actually fished the tournament. Out of those 24
boats, 23 weighed in fish. Weigh in fish? YOU BET. They weighed in 180
fish. 45 of the 48 anglers in the tournament weighed in fish. The first
place winners were Greg and Andy Shands. They weighed in 13 fish (including
a full 5 fish limit for both anglers on Sunday) that weighed 21.76 lbs.

serving as Tournament Directors at Tablerock.

All of the spots for Tournament Directors have been filled
except for Pomme De Terre – May – Sunday and Wappapello – September –
Sunday. Please help us fill these last two spots. We have received a
number of requests for Teams to serve as TD’s more than once.
Unfortunately, we cannot award more than one TD spot to the same Team until
after June 1. We have started a waiting list for Tournament Director
spots. This list will be used to fill any outstanding or new openings for
Tournament Director. Please contact Terry Stanek, Tournament Chairman to
put your name on the list.

In regard to the DQ at Table Rock, the officers have reviewed the wording of
Tournament Rule D6.
“No trailering of boats
during tournament hours except to a pre-announced designated weigh in site.
(Penalty #2)”.
In a previous officer
discussion, “trailering” was interpreted to be putting a boat on a trailer
(for any reason). Following the Table Rock tournament, we researched the
definition of “trailering”, and found it to be “To
transport by a trailer: trailered the boat to the
beach.”. This was confirmed
with 3 different dictionary sources. The officers have concluded that “transporting”
implies moving to another location. Therefore it is different from “loading
out” (and not leaving the immediate area). Our rule did not define
this.
Therefore, the officers
have determined that this rule is subject to misinterpretation, and needs to
be clarified. We cannot change the wording of the T-Rules until the 2006
tournament season is over, because everyone signed the “Tournament Rules
Acknowledgement Form” and sent it in with their paid membership. However,
we CAN change the interpretation of that rule now, and make a
recommendation to the 2007 officers to redefine this rule, at the end of the
year.
Russ and Ashley had 2 fish
on Saturday (1 each) for 5.14lbs. They had 2 more (1 each) on Sunday, with
Ashley’s fish estimated to be between 5 – 5.5lbs. Russ has a long standing
reputation in the club, and is not one to over exaggerate weights. With
these estimated weights Russ and Ashley could have won the tournament, and
Ashley would have received Big Bass for Sunday, and the weekend.
Because of the
misinterpretation of this rule, the officers have proposed the following
resolution. Russ and Ashley will be awarded…
- Creel points for all 4
fish caught for the weekend (4 points each).
- First place points (6
points each).
- BB points for Sunday and
the weekend (5 points for Ashley).
- First place prize money
of $194.00.
- BB prize money for
Sunday of $78.00.
- Big Bass side pot of
$105.00.
The points and prize money
shown here are being awarded as duplicate awards. Nothing will be taken
away from anyone who received a check or points at Table Rock.
In addition to this
resolution, the officers would like to extend a public apology to Russ and
Ashley for this rule misinterpretation. By clarifying this rule, we will
make our club better for the future.
