Clearwater -- Let’s Get Ready to Rumble
Why do we fish the tournaments? Some fish for
the camaraderie. Some fish to have a weekend away WITH the better half. Some
fish to have a weekend away FROM the other half. Some fish to have an
opportunity to toss back a few. Some fish to go fast on the water and feel
the wind in their hair. Most fish because it is an opportunity to compete.
The survey we sent out gave the members an opportunity to provide feedback
of how we, as officers, can help make their tournament season more
successful. There were requests to provide winning patterns. As a response
to that request, one section of the newsletter will provide the history of
past winners and their (reported) winning patterns for the next scheduled
tournament. I will also provide past lake and weather conditions if they are
available.

Why fish Clearwater?
There is no length limit on the lake. That obviously MUST mean that
there are only small fish at Clearwater. If that is the assumption you made,
YOU ARE WRONG.
2005 1st Place took 10.52lbs to win including a 5.45lb Big Bass for that
team.
2004 1st Place took 14.89lbs to win including a 7.74lb Big Bass for that
team.
2003 1st place took 12.34lbs to win including a 4.58lb Big Bass for that
team.
Only small fish,. Yea right. Remember these are 1 day totals for 5 fish per
angler.
Oh, by the way, guess where the club record Big Bass was caught. That’s
right, CLEARWATER. In 2004 Josh Zelnis hauled in a 7.96lb Big Bass to set
the Club Record. His team reported that they were using deep cranks.
Directions to the Lake
Take Highway 55 South to Highway 67 south. Follow Hwy 67 to Highway 34 west.
Follow Hwy 34 to the city of Piedmont. Continue Hwy 34 through the city of
Piedmont until you reach the Walmart Store. Make a right onto Highway HH in
front of the Walmart and follow Hwy HH for 7 miles to the Clearwater Lake
Dam. Highway HH ends at a T intersection on top of the Clearwater Lake Dam.
Make a right at the T intersection on top of the dam onto County Road #418
and follow to the Piedmont Park Recreation Area. The park entrance will be
on your left. When you reach the park entrance do not enter the park.
Instead, continue following County Road #418 as it continues on towards the
right. After the park, the next entrance on your left will be for the
Piedmont Park Marina.
Piedmont Park Marina, Piedmont MO, 314-223-7224. Note; the marina will be
open for drinks and sandwiches. NO GAS AND NO FISHING LICENSE AVAILABLE AT
THE MARINA. Walmart in Piedmont “should” be open and they do sell fishing
license.
Tournament Entry
As a reminder, please make sure your tournament entry form arrives to Lori

Tournament Directors
The Tournament Directors for the Clearwater Lake Tournament are Terry Stanek
and Bob Treadway. Note: there are very few spots left for Tournament
Directors (only 5 remaining) Sunday – Mark Twain, Sunday – Truman, Sunday –
Wappapelo, Saturday and Sunday Ozarks (October). Contact Bob Treadway to
sign up.
Remember, 2 points are awarded to volunteers for Tournament Directors.
Please help us fill the remaining spots.
Newsletter
This will be the last Newsletter mailed to you unless you checked the “snail
mail” box on the membership form. In an effort to keep administration costs
down, the club officers recommend that you access the web site for the
newsletter. The main disadvantage of not using the web site for the
newsletter is that you will only get the small thumbnail pictures in the
printed copy. I will print and mail a copy of the Newsletter to all who have
checked the box on the Membership Form.
It’s nice to
see the old familiar names, and also so many new names listed in member
listing area of HawgHawlers.com. We even have new members signing up as “T”
directors (thank you). We are off to a rip-roaring start to 2006. Now all we
have to do is to break all of the records set in previous years. My
challenge to all past HH members is to catch more and bigger fish than they
have in the past (just not more and bigger than mine…wink-wink). I’m sure I
speak for all Hawg Hawlers in welcoming our new members to the club. Please
introduce yourselves around, we are more than competitors, we are friends.
So far it looks like we have a great start on 2006, let’s make it a year for
the record books.
See you all at the lake…
Greg.
