Mark Twain -
Charlie and Chuck Beach Take the Win
Mark Twain Lake, June 10-11, 2006
Mother Nature strikes
again. Saturday was a little chilly for June. But the fishing was pretty
good. 52 anglers weighed in 48 fish. Sunday was a different story.
Thunderstorms started on Saturday night and continued Sunday morning. The
Officers made the decision to delay the tournament checking the conditions
every 15 minutes until 7:00 AM. At 7:00 AM a flash of lightning struck close
enough to be seen from the parking lot. The lightning and the forecast that
there would be no change in the weather in the next few hours convinced the
Officers that it was time to cancel the Tourney.

The Presidents Boat
Southfork Resort welcomed the Hawg Hawlers with open arms. Not only did they
give us a discount on our rooms, but there was free coffee each morning. And
to top it off, they gave us a certificate for a free nights stay (M-Th),
that is good for the rest of the year. The folks there were very
accommodating, and the quick shop was well stocked. A big Hawg Hawler “THANK
YOU” to Southfork Resort for being so gracious. Obviously, they will stay on
our “Favored Resorts” list.

Confessions of a Female Angler
By Lori Luzynski and Pam Wakim
More women are starting to compete but bass fishing is still predominantly a
male sport which leads to some interesting situations for the female angler.
Men are usually well mannered but the extent of their manners is relevant to
how long you’ve known them. When you first meet a man, he normally won’t
scratch and belch in your presence but the men you’ve known longer are not
shy about their bodily functions. We’ve known these Hawg Hawlers for a while
so we sometimes feel like the little sister that at any moment may become
the victim of a “dutch oven”.
It begins the moment we check into a resort. Men have this idea that if it’s
not home they can “toss” anywhere there is empty space but eventually what
was once empty space becomes filled with wet towels, beer cans and dirty
underwear.
Then after a hard day pre-fishing, we look forward to a quiet, peaceful
sleep but just as our heads hit the pillow we hear …. Zzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzzz.
Who’s running a chainsaw at this time of night? Oh, it’s just him. How will
we ever get any sleep?
After tossing and turning all night, the alarm goes off. It’s time to make
that last potty trip before take off. What the *? What happened in this
bathroom?! It looks like Sasquatch showered in here! And smells like it too!
Finally, we are out fishing … our lines in the water … what a beautiful day
… so relaxing … BARUMF!! Was that a bullfrog? No, it’s just our partner
sharing his biscuits and gravy with us. Good thing we’re down wind!
Oh, well, there is a plus side. By spending so much time with men, we better
understand a man’s point of view and we have learned at least one very
important lesson that most men will appreciate …... we leave the toilet seat
UP.
