36 boats
attended the kickoff for the Hawg Hawlers 2007 season which was held at Lake
of the Ozarks. This was our Memorial Tournament and Ken Jones asked for a
moment of silence so we could pay tribute to our fellow anglers that are no
longer with us, after which Ken asked for a safe successful season. The
weather seemed to be the only thing in our favor this weekend with temps
reaching 80 both days. As for the fishing, 71 anglers came to weigh-in with
only 56 fish. 4 fish was the most any one boat could come up with.
Finishing out
the rest of the 9 places were:
4th
Place- Scott & Duane Noyes
5th Place- Terry Bost & Dave Jett
6th Place- Richard Beakham & Jason Sportsman
7th Place- Scott Hasty & Jason Kennedy
8th Place- Warren Lichius & Rick Armstrong
9th Place- Dave Sona & Tom Crockett
Big Bass
Saturday Big Bass was a real contest with 3 nice bass coming to the
scales. First it was Bob Treadway’s bass weighing in at 4.55 pounds. Next
Jim Hawkins brings one up that weighed 5.80 pounds. But they were no match
for Jason Sportsman’s monster that hit the scales at 6.25 pounds. Jason
earned $134.00 for his fish.
Sunday Big
Bass was no different. Ken Jones put his mark on the board with a 4.03
pounder. Dave Sona answered with a nice 5.10 pound bass of his own. Not to
be outdone, Terry Bost stepped up to the scales and put down a 5.66 pounder
which made Sunday’s Big Bass and good for $134.00.
Big Bass for the weekend was Jason Sportsman’s 6.25 pounder which netted him
another $170.00 from the side pot. That’s a total of $304.00 for one fish!
Not bad Jason. And by the way Jason’s Fish is now the mark to beat for Big
Bass of the year. You know the bad part about catching such a big bass at
the first tournament of the year is that it’s going to be a long season for
Jason. Just ask Teddy Reim.

Error in Calculating Final Results
- From the Presidents Boat
Before everyone settles in to read the Results and News I want you all to
know that there was an error when calculating the final results at the weigh
in Sunday. Our club laptop has been giving us trouble so we couldn’t use it
to calculate the final weights and places. Unfortunately, boat number 26,
Terry Bost and Dave Jett, did not get totaled and was missed when the total
weights were put in place order. Terry and Dave had 9.29 pounds which put
them in 5th place. For everyone in the original top 9 places that were
announced at weigh in Sunday, you will keep the payout and the points you
received for that place. We appreciate Terry and Dave bringing this to our
attention and apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused. We
awarded Terry and Dave their 5th place checks and 5th place points. We would
like to remind everyone to always check your creel points and weights at
weigh in to ensure they are correct. We will use one of our personal laptops
until the club laptop is repaired or replaced. If anyone has questions or
concerns, please contact me or any of the other officers.

From
Cuz's Boat
By Greg Shands
Well, the first tournament of the year is
behind us now and as usual, there are things that need to be reported that
just don’t have a place in the newsletter.
First, it was reported that after a weekend of binge drinking and shaving
her head bald, Lori’s dog Kahlua, admitted herself into a rehab center on
Monday morning. Family members say she is doing fine and a full recovery is
expected.
Next, it seems that one of our members found out that modern technology is
not always all its cracked up to be. Seems like the GPS clocks are not as
accurate right now as a good old fashion watch. Hang in there Dave S., after
April the new stuff will be as good as the old stuff, at least for a month
or two.
From what I heard this weekend sounds like we should have had a Drum fishing
contest. The bite was really on as several teams reported catching large
Drum.
And last, but not least, this reporter witnessed first hand how bass boats
get stress cracks. After having enjoyed a quiet Sunday morning out on the
lake without having to put up with any pesky bass bothering us, my partner
suddenly hooked the Grandfather of the Lake, and yes, we both saw it and it
was all Bass. As the fish got about two feet from the net, she decided she
had had enough of us and threw the spinner bait. Now, this is where the
stress cracks come in. First, my partner danced this God awful foot stomping
jig, next he attempted to realign the reel on the rod by throwing it down,
not once, but multiple times, all the while as he was reciting all the four
letter words he had ever heard. After he had stopped his dance I made the
mistake of asking him if his hook was sharp. I don’t know if the hook was
sharp, but I know his tongue was. To make matters worse, after he calmed
down and went back to fishing, the same thing happened again. This time I
didn’t say a thing.
Till next time, this is Cuz’s boat saying, “Beware, you don’t know who’s
watching or listening”.
